Pauline's initiative
We spoke to Pauline at the Volunteer Work Support Center Eerselvoorelkaar in the hall of the town hall in Eersel. In July 2020, Pauline came to live in Eersel with her boyfriend after many wanderings throughout the Netherlands. In the middle of the first wave of the corona pandemic. A very difficult period to make new contacts and get to know Eersel better. The corona measures and the move not only created a feeling of isolation. A second serious burnout, which resulted in Pauline being declared partially incapacitated for work, also reinforced this feeling. A career as a change manager for large IT teams in the field of functional management and service management came to an abrupt halt. As a result, many social contacts disappeared. In the spring of 2021, the diagnosis of cervical cancer followed as a bolt from the blue. Months of radiation and chemo followed, after which Pauline had to recuperate for months.

Stories can help others move forward, inspire or offer support. Especially in this difficult corona period. That's why we ask everyone to share their story. Below you can read the story of Theo van der Veldt from Eersel. He shared this story with us early this year. Unfortunately Theo passed away on March 18th. As he himself indicates in his last farewell message; "I went to heaven, a wonderful alternative". Theo was a special and down-to-earth man with his heart in the right place. He took great pleasure in helping others and helping where he could. But unfortunately his health deteriorated sharply last year, and he became a help requester instead of a help provider. He did not give up, but gives us a nice message in the story below. A message that we (Theo's family and our team of Eerselvoorelkaar) are happy to share with everyone.
